The new ZenBook Pro Duos are Asus’ second-generation dual-screen laptops. Asus calls the second display, which stretches across the top of the keyboard, the ScreenPad Plus. The display’s interface can adapt to the application at hand. For example, in Adobe Lightroom, it can show Lighroom’s developer’s panel so the editor can splash the photo onto the main display. It currently works best with Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom and After Effect with more on the way. When the user opens the lid, the ScreenPad Plus lifts up slightly to improve ergonomics. The gap also helps with airflow.

In addition, users can map application shortcuts to the secondary displays, or have handy access to simpler apps like the calculator or media controls. Both displays support the Asus Pen, which comes with the device.
A trade-off for this innovative design is that the keyboard now contends space with the trackpad. Because the keyboard now occupies the wrist rest area, Asus had to displace the keyboard to the right of the keys. Thus, the keys are a little more cramped compared to a regular keyboard, especially on the smaller ZenBook Duo 14. Moreover, without a place for palms, typing on laps may not be as comfortable.
Asus ZenBook Duo 14
The ZenBook Pro Duo 15 uses up to an Intel Core i9-10980HK processor, likely due to its higher multi-threaded performance compared to Intel’s 11th gen Tiger Lake processors. Other specs include Nvidia’s newly announced RTX 3070 graphics, up to 32 GB of LPDDR4 memory, 1 TB NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD, and a 70 Wh battery. One key distinction between the 15-inch and the 14-inch model is the main display technology; while the ZenBook Duo 14 uses an IPS display, the 15-inch model uses an OLED panel.
The more compact ZenBook Duo 14 uses Intel’s 11th-gen quad-core Tiger Lake processors. As with the larger variant, the ZenBook Duo 14 also comes with up to 32 GB of RAM, and 1 TB SSD. Graphics options include the integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics or the dedicated Nvidia GeForce MX450 graphics.
The Asus ZenBook Pro Duo 14 is available for pre-order starting Jan. 14 for US$1300. The ZenBook Pro Duo 15 OLED will arrive in April. Asus has not announced its pricing.
Dell announced a slew of new Latitude business laptops ahead of CES 2021.
Latitude 9420 and Latitude 9520
The 14-inch Latitude 9420 lands with a “SafeShutter” webcam shutter that “automatically opens or closes” to enhance conference privacy. Spec-wise, the 14-inch Latitude 9420 can be configured with up to an Intel 11th Gen Core i7 vPro processor and 32GB of memory. Being a compact device, the Latitude 9420 lacks a dedicated graphic option but touts Intel’s new Iris Xe integrated graphics. The laptop comes in both clamshell and 2-in-1 designs, with the latter having the option of a 500-nit QHD thin-bezel display. Battery options include 40Whr or 60Whr capacities. It also comes with support for new connectivity technologies including Wi-Fi 6E and 5G.
In addition to performance, Dell says it bolstered its products’ eco-friendliness by sourcing ocean-bound plastics and HDPE for its packaging trays. The company also says that it uses VOC waterborne paint on 100 per cent painted parts.
The larger 15.6-inch Latitude 9520 also got a spec bump to Intel’s 11th-gen processors. It inherits the SafeShutter.
The Latitude 9420 will be available in Spring 2021 starting at US$1,950. The Latitude 9520 will arrive in the same time frame, although Dell has yet to announce an official price.
Latitude 7000
The new Latitude 7000 series also received intel’s 11th-gen mobile processors. All three models–the 13.3-inch Latitude 7320, the 14-inch 7420, and the 15.6-inch 7520– can have up to an Intel 11th-gen quad-core processor with Iris Xe graphics and pack 32GB of memory. The Latitude 7320 and 7420 also come in foldable 2-in-1 styles, but omit the SafeShutter privacy shutter and 500-nit displays.
The Latitude 7000 series will arrive on March 30, 2021 starting at US$999. Drivers logitech network & wireless cards.
Latitude 5000
The Latitude 5000 series also come in 13.3-inch, 14-inch, and 15.6-inch display sizes. Following the trend set by the other two series, the Latitude 5000 series also comes with Intel’s 11th-gen Core i7 vPro processors, but has a higher 64GB maximum memory configuration. In addition to integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics, the Latitude 15.6-inch 5520 can also be configured with an Nvidia MX450 dedicated graphics. The laptops support either a 42Wh or a 63Wh battery. In this series, only the 13.3-inch Latitude 5320 comes in a 2-in-1 form factor.
Dell has also reduced the Latitude 5000 series’ environmental impact. The laptops use reclaimed carbon fibre and bioplastics in the lid, which reduces carbon and water use during manufacturing. It also uses VOC waterborne paint on 100 per cent painted components.
The Dell Latitude 5000 series will arrive on Jan. 12. Dell has yet to reveal its cost.
All the laptops in the traditional clamshell form factor can be pre-loaded with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS instead of Windows 10. Moreover, all the new Latitude laptops feature the Dell Optimizer, an AI software tool that optimizes performance based on the user’s workflow.
